Environmental Actions

At IK Collection, we are committed to reducing our environmental impact through practical, measurable actions implemented across our operations.

Reducing Plastic Waste

We have phased out 50cl plastic water bottles from guest rooms, replacing daily plastic bottle replenishment with reusable glass bottles. This initiative significantly reduces single-use plastic consumption and supports a more circular approach to guest amenities.

Single-use bathroom amenities have also been eliminated. Individual body and hair product bottles have been replaced with refillable dispensers in all guest bathrooms, reducing plastic waste without compromising guest comfort.

Waste Management & Separation

A comprehensive Waste Management Policy is in place across all IK Collection properties. This includes clear waste separation practices to ensure responsible disposal and increased recycling.

These initiatives help reduce landfill waste, support recycling efforts, and promote responsible environmental practices throughout our operations.

At IK Collection, we believe sustainable tourism starts with people. We are committed to fostering positive relationships with our employees, stakeholders, and the communities we operate in.

Throughout the year, we implement staff incentive and recognition schemes designed to motivate our teams and celebrate their contributions. We actively observe International Awareness Days, including Autism Awareness Day, World Down Syndrome Day, Pink October, and Movember, helping raise awareness of important social and health issues while promoting an inclusive and supportive workplace culture.

Our commitment extends beyond our properties and into the wider community. Through ongoing community support initiatives, we contribute to food bank programmes, participate in community clean-up activities across various locations, and support local NGOs and foundations. IK COLLECTION is committed to operating responsibly and sustainably while providing a high-quality guest experience. As IK Collection, we recognize our responsibility to minimize the environmental impact of our operations, support our employees and local community, respect and promote Malta's cultural heritage, and contribute positively to the local economy. Sustainability considerations are incorporated into our day-to-day operations and management decisions, with the aim of achieving continuous improvement.

Environmental Responsibility

  • Monitor and reduce energy consumption wherever reasonably possible.
  • Monitor and reduce water consumption.
  • Reduce waste and encourage appropriate waste separation and recycling.
  • Reduce unnecessary use of single-use products and packaging.
  • Use environmentally responsible products and materials where practical.
  • Encourage responsible use of resources by employees and guests.
  • Consider environmental performance when purchasing products, equipment and services.
  • Prevent pollution and ensure the responsible handling of chemicals and other potentially harmful materials.

Responsible Purchasing

Purchasing decisions can have a significant environmental and social impact. IK Collection therefore aims to consider sustainability when selecting products and suppliers. Where practical, preference will be given to products that are local, durable, reusable, recyclable, responsibly sourced or have a reduced environmental impact. The hotel will also seek to minimize unnecessary packaging and avoid purchasing practices that may negatively affect protected species, cultural heritage or local communities.

Guest Participation

We aim to provide our guests with a comfortable and high-quality experience while giving them opportunities to participate in our sustainability efforts. Guests may be encouraged to use water and energy responsibly, reduce unnecessary waste, participate in linen and towel reuse practices where applicable, and respect Malta's local community, culture and environment.

Legal Compliance

IK Collection is committed to complying with applicable Maltese and European legislation and regulatory requirements relevant to its operations, including environmental, employment, health and safety, accessibility and cultural heritage requirements.

Continuous Improvement

Sustainability is an ongoing process. IK Collection will establish sustainability objectives and actions appropriate to the size and nature of the hotel. Relevant performance indicators will be monitored where practical, and progress will be reviewed periodically. The hotel's Sustainability Management Plan and associated targets will be formally reviewed at least annually. Where necessary, objectives and actions will be updated based on performance, operational changes, identified risks and opportunities for improvement.

Communication

This Sustainability Policy will be communicated to employees and made available to relevant stakeholders where appropriate. Employees are expected to support the hotel's sustainability commitments within their respective roles and responsibilities.
